The Russian Czar and the Bridge

Yet another "disappointing" season comes to an end at the bridge. A season that had such a promising start ends in such chaos and disarray. We finished second in the points table on level points with Manchester City but ahead on goal difference, for which we can thank our seasons start. But the points table seldom tell the whole story. In truth it was a disastrous season at the Bridge. Which to the relief of many has finally come to an end. From heading the table to falling behind miserably to spending 50 million on a "fallen star" to the departure of Ray Wilkins to finally the sacking of "King Carlo". The fans have seen a lot to agree that it was one of the most forgettable season the club has seen lately.
Having said all this, What went wrong? Is the all important question, on paper we certainly have the best team in all of the Premier League( and one of the best in Europe). We have an experienced lot. Players who have faced all sorts of challenges before.Players who only last year were the Champions of English Football. So what went wrong? Was it us letting go of some important players? Like Ricardo Carvalho was clearly missed in defence. Or was it injuries? Majority of players falling ill or getting injured mid-season.Was it Ray Wilkins departure? As there was a clear slump in form after his departure. Was it the signing of Torres? Probably the most expensive disaster at the Chelsea, ever. Or was it Carlo Ancolleti's faliure? As it seems to be implicated by his rapid dismissal. I think it is the collective failure of the team in general and the owners refusal to let the manager manage his team in all sovereignty.
How different are we from our closet rival and 19 times Champion Manchester United? Do we have any less quality? I think the difference lies in only one factor and that is the manager. While Sir Alex has ruled for almost a quarter of a century. We are on the verge of our 9th manager in  the last decade. Instability looms large at the club, we love so much. Carlo Ancelloti was clearly treated unfairly. He should have been allowed more time to regroup and learn from the teams failures. For his replacement will only have to go through the same treatment if he were to fail even once.
As long as the Russian Czar lets the manager manage his team in the true sense of it. And as along as people are not penalized so gravely for their failures our club will never flourish and we will always be second best. Lets us hope whoever takes up  the reigns is allowed the freedom to decide and to do whats best for the club and the players without so much interference from the owner and his advisers.
We hope to have a better season next year in the domestic and the European front. And thanks to King Carlo. For all he has given to our club.

Up the Blues.
